The Vagina Monologues, written by V (formerly Eve Ensler), has sparked conversations about women's bodies and experiences since 1996. First performed Off-Broadway and in locations around the world, The Vagina Monologues dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement in women’s experiences. They break taboos about women’s sexuality and shatter silence around violence done to women and girls.

The Monologues are based on hundreds of interviews with real people of various ages, races, gender identities and sexualities. As the stories are explored, discussed and eventually performed, the women in the play often find ways to reclaim their bodies and challenge the negative stereotypes surrounding them. The challenges addressed throughout this play are some of the same issues far too many women are still navigating and fighting today, which is one of the many reasons why the cast, crew, and the whole Broad Ideas board is excited to be bringing The Vagina Monologues back to the Tri-State Area!

These performances are part of Broad Ideas, a community arts showcase focused on empowerment and solidarity, highlighting a diverse range of experiences, emotions, and realities through an inclusive feminist perspective.
Thanks to the Riverview Center, free childcare will be available onsite for those wishing to see the show and Riverview will be available in case anyone is needing emotional support during or after the show. Additional resources and materials about their services will also be available.

Special thanks to our local sponsor, Awake4Yoga, for making this show possible!

This program is also partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
